North Andover, MA — August 22, 2008 — In its second large-scale school bus installation project spanning multiple markets, InstallerNet has managed a double-double: twice as many buses in twice as many countries.
InstallerNet has agreed with school bus operator First Student to outfit 40,000 yellow school buses with child safety devices manufactured by Child Check Mate. Of these, approximately 7,000 buses are located throughout Canada. The company completed a similar project with First Student last year, installing the devices in 20,000 buses in the United States. This phase of the project is scheduled to begin in September and be completed by April 2009.
“We are extremely pleased that First Student has again called upon us to complete what will be—by far—our largest installation project to date,” said InstallerNet CEO Tony Frangiosa. “We are confident we can complete all of the installations in the allotted time frame.”
First Student is a subsidiary of FirstGroup America, the U.S. division of Scotland-based FirstGroup plc. The company finalized the acquisition of Laidlaw International in early 2007, bring its total fleet of school buses to more than 60,000. Due to the positive impact made by the first installation project, it tasked InstallerNet with newly acquired fleet from Laidlaw.
The safety device is designed to reduce the number of incidents in which sleeping children are left on board buses once their routes are completed. It alerts the driver to physically check all seats prior to leaving the bus.
