InstallerNet Debuts Spanish-Language Customer Interface for Best Buy in Puerto Rico

North Andover, Mass. — As Best Buy expands into other countries, so goes InstallerNet.

V.I.C.—the Vehicle Integration Configurator which was developed by InstallerNet last summer for Best Buy US stores, was installed in the first Best Buy location in Puerto Rico. The V.I.C. kiosk is the first of its type and provides a complete sales and vehicle application tool for Best Buy customers and associates. The customer interface for the Puerto Rico store delivers the complete user experience in Spanish.

Customers can use V.I.C. to select from Best Buy’s in-store and online products to configure and personalize any mobile electronics system for their vehicle. V.I.C. accesses the same vehicle, product and integration database as in InstallerNet’s flagship MAID Pro, a software package used by thousands of installation professionals nationwide.

Best Buy opened its first location in Puerto Rico in February of this year, located across from Plaza Las Americas in Hato Rey, San Juan. All store signage is primarily in Spanish. InstallerNet, working with Accenture, Best Buy’s IT partner, was tasked to create a Spanish version of its kiosk for an integrated user experience.

“We’re very pleased to extend our current relationship with Best Buy, and work with them as they reach out to other markets,” said Tony Frangiosa, InstallerNet CEO. “The continual drive of our employees to develop new applications with the latest technology enables us to meet the demands of our customers as they grow.”

The V.I.C. kiosk is designed to deliver additional features as the needs of Best Buy change. It incorporates a daily information feed enabling pricing, inventory levels and product SKUs to be automatically updated. Each kiosk also features a “Best Buy Key” service that allows a user to configure their system in the kiosk, save it, and recall it using the kiosk at any other Best Buy location.

InstallerNet has a long-standing relationship with Best Buy. In 2000, under its MobileToys brand, the company designed a database for the chain to implement its online and in-store fit guides. Since then, product offerings have grown to include an enhanced FitGuide, iFitGuide—which determines the proper iPod or MPEG interface for a selected vehicle—and the current V.I.C. kiosk. “This is a great first step and a new direction for our company,” said Timothy Armstrong, CTO for InstallerNet. “The ability to convert and deploy our vast database of information in Spanish serves both Best Buy and its customers in Puerto Rico. What we’ve learned in this experience will help us to develop our other products for different markets around the world.”
